Training

Tenzing has a proven track record in staff training in the pragmatic use of geostatistical concepts, in particular in the form of hands-on one on one co-piloting session using the specialised geostatistical toolbox Isatis.

Tenzing also has experience in teaching introductory and advanced geostatistical training courses to the coal and metalliferous mining industry (~25 courses since 1999) as course leaders and/or course co-presenters.

Tenzing offers two types of training:

  1. Short courses covering introductory geostatistics to advanced geostatistical methodologies;

  2. Hands-on one on one training covering both geostatistical theory and practical examples (client or site based) using the specialised geostatistical toolbox Isatis.

The outline of a typical course would be as follows:

Day 1

  1. Isatis software installation;

  2. General introduction;

  3. Importing comma delimited files with and without header files;

  4. Exporting comma delimited files with and without header files; and,

  5. Data Selection – covering in detail interval selections, alphanumeric selections, logical operation selections (AND, OR, NOT, EX OR), sampling selection and macro selections;

  6. Copy statistics operations covering the points grid and grid operations; and,

  7. Calculation operations.

Day 2

  1. Grid creation for two dimensional estimation and for statistical homogeneity analysis;

  2. Quick statistics operations reviewing univariate, bivariate and multivariate operations;

  3. Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) covering base maps, scatter plots, histograms, grade tonnage curves, q-q plots, h-scatter plots, variograms and variogram maps. In addition, the editing, saving and printing of the statistical figures was reviewed;

  4. Generation of experimental variogram maps; and,

  5. Generation of experimental omni-directional variograms and directional variograms.

Day 3

  1. Review of the Isatis processes learnt over Days 1 to 3 by performing statistical homogeneity analysis, exploratory data analysis and variographic analysis based on a seam from deposit datasets;

  2. This process follows the typical geostatistical workflows used by Tenzing in coal projects;

  3. Review of the drillhole spacing analysis procedure (DHSA);

  4. Review and interpretation of the DHSA Excel spreadsheet; and,

  5. Review of the (co)kriging operations.
