Tenzing News
Tenzing Steps Into 2008
The year started in a typically busy fashion for the ‘Tenzingers’ with new offices, new clients and new projects for the year ahead.
It was also with great sadness that we learnt in January, about the death of Sir Edmund Hillary. The determination and flexibility of Hillary, Tenzing and the Everest team were influential in the minds of Zach and Oli when setting up their new company in 2006.
Before 1953, ten expeditions had entered into the grueling but exhilarating battle with Everest, and at least 16 men had died trying to overcome the mountain's many obstacles.
Tenzing Goes Carbon Neutral
Climate change and global warming are among today's most pressing environmental issues, brought about by increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Transport is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions – greenfleet.com.au
As a consulting firm, Tenzing personnel spend a significant amount of time traveling to our clients’ sites, both in Australia and overseas. Tenzing takes its responsibility for the protection of the environment and the sustainability of its business very seriously. To help us in the fight against climate change we have partnered with Greenfleet. Greenfleet is the first not for profit forestry organisation in Australia to become an Approved Abatement Provider under the Australian Government’s Greenhouse Friendly initiative.
Tenzing works with Greenfleet to better understand new technologies that can lower carbon dioxide emissions and by undertaking reforestation projects that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To date, Tenzing has committed to planting almost 500 trees that will soak up approximately 135 tonnes of carbon.

Lihir Gold Limited (LGL)
Aaron Tomsett recently helped with the update of the entire recoverable resource estimate at Lihir (end of 2007). He is also completing an interesting project assessing the impact of domaining on the estimation of recoverable gold-sulphur resources at Lihir using Multivariate Recoverable Resource Consortium (M2RC) plug-ins. The choice to work with independent domains for gold and sulphur or true bi-variate domains for the two variables is critical. Aaron is deploying his set of geological and geostatistical skills to help assess the impact of such a decision.
BMA Assistance
Zach and Oli attended a workshop on clarification issues on February 28th 2008 in Brisbane. The discussions focussed on the validity of assumptions behind geostatistical drill hole spacing analysis and providedinformation to help BMA formulate corporate guidelines to support JORC classification decisions. Tenzing would like to reiterate their gratitude to their primary contacts: Doug Dunn and Grenville Davies, to be given the opportunity to be part of that adventure alongside BMA professionals.
Henri Sanguinetti
Henri is a dual French/Australian citizen with almost 40 years of experience in geology and geostatistics. He is one of the true experts in the application of complex geostatistical concepts to practical mining situations; his knowledge of Uranium deposits in particular is world-class. He has just finished an audit of Eramet's SLN nickel resources in New Caledonia.
M2RC consortium
Oli Bertoli attended a meeting in Paris on December 5th2007 as a representative for Tenzing's client, Lihir Gold Limited (LGL), in the Multivariate Recoverable Resource Consortium (M2RC) run by Geovariances. The project is dealing with the prediction of the recoverable resource of a secondary mineral according to a cut-off applied to the main economic mineral. During this meeting Oli presented the preliminary results of Aaron's work on bi-variate domaining at Lihir. |
